Paul’s Main Events of 2005
- Continued / finished my year at University of Wales (Aberystwyth)
- With an average of 2.1 (that's quite good for those of you that don't know the marking system, it translates to the second best grade available, being beaten only by a 1'st)
- Many good times were had in the final semester at Aber (Aber is what the students call the university), you can see some photo's in the photo site.
- Got accepted to spend my second year in USA (Wisconsin)
- After constantly pestering my teachers they eventually let me get 1 of only 3 slots with an exchange scheme
- The exchange placement was between Aberystwyth University and Carroll College (Waukesha Wisconsin)
- The placement is for 9 months, stretching the whole academic year of 2005/06
- May Ball - 2005
- What can I say, possibly the best night of my life
- Firstly I got to do Bungee Jumping (for those of you that don't know, that's jumping off of a crane with only a thick elastic tied to your legs to pull you back before you hit the floor).
- Then I got to see Jules Holland perform live, he was amazing!
- Overall it was a brilliant night and I (as did many others) thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to see what next year has to offer
- Summer - 2005
- I spent most of the year working for National Refrigerants, which was pretty boring (filling up bottle of gas)
- Having said that though, I did look forward to the weekends where I would either go and visit my (now X) girlfriend down in Bath or I would visit 2 of my best friends at each of their homes, 1 lived near Cardiff and the other near Worcester
- If I wasn't doing the above then I was either working in my (latter obtained) job at the Harvester in Hinckley as a Barman or I was partying with my friends from Nuneaton (especially Tom another 1 of my best friends).
- Finally the whole family and me (Paul) ended the summer in a great fashion and went over to my uncles in Boston (USA) where he showed us loads of things to do including wake boarding and tubing. We spent time in Jacuzzis and eat out far too much... all in all a brilliant holiday preparing me immensely for the year ahead in college
- Carroll College (USA)
- So far my time at Carroll has been somewhat of a challenge.
- Mainly because of the difference in culture it's been a shock but I prefer to think of it as a challenge just waiting to be conquered
- I have made many friends if nothing else because I have an English accent, which is considered in America as somewhat of a interesting concept
- Since arriving here I've done many interesting things such as watching a "home coming" game of "football" (that's American football for anyone who doesn't know) and I've been to see the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team play
- Finally I have my own college radio show, where I DJ and MC (basically I mix in the tracks and I talk on the air). It's been lots of fun and I can't wait until it gets broadcast not only on the internet but also on terrestrial as well so that I get more listeners
Paul's Final Word
This year has been the best yet (as it seems to be every year),
I've done/seen/learnt/experienced loads of truly amazing things
I only wish you could have all been there to experience them all.
I've decided to stick with the name that my flat mates gave me last year
of Paul Razorlight as my stage name for my radio show.
I hope you are all safe and well.
Lots of Love from Paul Matthews (Razorlight).
